Where is it appropriate to use a .eu domain?

My client, a UK company, has a .eu domain and want to rank primarily in the UK but also worldwide, is a .eu domain appropriate?

99% of internet users are aware of only two TLD, their homeland ccTLD and .com
If you use .eu most of people who actually type the domain will either try their ccTLD extension or .com, so if you own the .com too you should redirect the .com to the .eu, but why do so? If you own the .com just use the .com, if you don't, change domain and use one with .com

Google cleared yesterday about how it deals with domain extensions, and confirmed that they’re all weighted equally.

Url's are not the be all and end all. However for global .com is the safest and best choice. An eu is not overly exciting to anyone, I think a turn off to many americans. A .co would be better. That said you can make any domain work except ru !

Has any one seen negative SEO effects from using Google Translate API
We have a site currently in development that is using the Google Translate API and I am having a massive issue getting screaming frog to crawl and all of our non-native English speaking employees have read through the translated copy in their native language and the general consensus is it reads at a 5th grade level at best. Sub-domains or sub-directories for country-specific versions of the site?
What approach do you think would be better from an SEO perspective when creating country-targeted versions for an eCommerce site (all in the same language with slight regional changes) - sub-domains or sub-directories? Domain strategy for UK and USA
Hi Everyone, We have example.org.uk with 20K inbound links. We want to target the US as well as the UK. I would be interested to hear what approaches are best for SEO. For example is it better to keep our current domain and have subdirectories for USA for example. Or would it be better to register example.org and then use subdirectories. Or is it better to use different domains for each country? Any help with this much appreciated. Cheers
