Listly and SEO
-
We use listly quite a lot. A few of our lists get embedded in other sites. A lot of the embedded lists have links back to us. Is there any seo benefit on this, or will just one of the sites count ? Isn't this just duplicate content ? Wondering what your thoughts are.

Nick Kellet at List.ly reached out to let me know move about the service. He gave me permission to copy and paste his email below.
From Nick...
"I'd love to fill you in on the details of Listly and SEO
Sure we offer iframes, and embed, but they are really secondary options. Our first choice is to use our Wordpress plugin, which means a list embedded in a post is treated as part of the post. ie your content is SEO searchable.Wordpress is just a first stop in executing our full vision for Listly.Crowd contributions ensure your post is ever changing, we know that brings significant impact to search results. This changes the lifecycle value of a single post from an SEO perspective.I'd be happy to share more and give you some examples of what this means in terms of organic search.I'm you'll be impressed and curious. We also have some great local search examples too.The anchor text is controllable from Listly. List items on your lists are freely nameable."

I'm not that familiar with Listly, (Edit: See my other answer in this thread) but it looks like an interesting site. It appears they have several different types of embed codes so I can't comment on a particular style, but I can offer some general thoughts about embed codes and links.
1. It's generally helpful to have other sites link to you. That said, some of the embed codes appear to use either javascript or iframes, so the value passed from those links would be hard to determine.
2. On the other hand, Google typically frowns upon links built at scale from widgets or embed codes, especially if they contain optimized, keyword rich anchor text.
In general, I'd say these links are probably okay as long as you don't abuse the anchor text in anyway. I'm unsure if you can control the anchor text using listly, but this means using descriptive, non-comercial anchor text like:
- "Mark's profile"
- "markswebsite.com"
- "Our Listly lists"
If you're concerned about it, you can always point the links to a neutral 3rd party site, like your Google+ profile. But I'd be very, very careful about linking to yourself with widgets like these using any sort of anchor text you wanted to rank for.
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Can affiliate links benefit or hurt my seo?
I have just signed up with a company to do affiliate marketing for my site. I am now in the process of reaching out to publishers and seeing who will publish my link on their site. Is there any benefit in terms of seo for having these links, and can there be any potential downside to these links as well?

Empty href damages SEO? (href="#")
Hello, I'm analyzing a website with thousands of pages.
Link Building | | prozis
I realized that on many of them they have empty links such href="#". I wonder if that will cause any SEO damage, or if Google will just ignore it as there isn't any link? I was reading about it and people seems to not be sure, although they recommend on forums to user the CSS pointer clickable instead of empty link. Let me know your opinion on this please! Thank you in advance!0 -
Does embedded content (from my site) help seo
hi i am creating a new accommodation site and will have some great videos on it (fly bys of local beaches and virtual tours of hotels etc). from an seo perspective i have two questions: 1. should i host on my own site or youtube/vimeo - its a new site but in the long run i want my site to get the credit 2. i will be giving the hotels the chance to embed and video content i have on their own sites. does this help my own seo juice and if so is there a particular way it should be done. there will be around 90 well established local hotels in total so figured it should add up.

Is there any SEO value of an HTML Sitemap, or is it strictly UI/UX?
We have an xml sitemap that generates daily, and our site and navigation is strong. Is there any added SEO value in either the links, or content of an html sitemap? I only see answers from several years ago so not sure if things have changed that would increase or decrease the importance. Thanks

Dmoz.Org listings - how much more difficult can it be?
We have had a quality website for 12 years. We have good rankings and good PR. But for some reason, I have never been able to get listed on Dmoz.org - it's like they're not even reviewing it. It's not like I got a rejection letter or anything, just a no response and we just can't seem to get listed there. It's almost like the editors for our category are just not responsive or just not around. Or maybe they're a competitor and don't want us listed? Questions: 1. How important is it for an established site to get listed? I imagine that dmoz being an authority site, it would still be very helpful for rankings. 2. There are dmoz "submission services" - where they claim to list your site the proper way. They don't guarantee their service, since they obviously can't, and you have to pay either way. Does anyone recommend these services and anyone know of a particular one that is up & up? Any help on getting listed would be appreciated!

BOTW listing
Okay, I've heard a lot about botw.org listing and how it should be on our list. So I dig down to my category, and according to seotoolbar, page does NOT show a google cache date. Well, wouldn't that be a wast of $150? Also, I think I'm in the wrong business. I'm seeing these HUGE fees for seo and link building services. Even just consulting is outrageously high. There has got to be an option for us little guys, but obviously professionals in the seo market are making a ton of money.
